Hence, I would say that you avoid these hours entirely. Instead, go for either early morning or late afternoon, as mentioned above.

What Factors Affect Tanning Time

  • Geographical Location And Latitude: Being closer to the equator and at higher altitudes increases exposure intensity. If you live near the equator, you will choose a time of day to tan when the sun’s rays aren’t as intense.
  • Cloud Cover: Clouds diffuse UV rays for milder tanning potential. You must tan in the sun when clouds aren’t hovering over you.
  • Skin Tone and Pigmentation: Based on melanin content and genetic disposition, pale to fair skin burns fastest, and dark skin tans slower. So, consider tanning time based on your skin color, too.
  • UV Index Rating: This direct measure of expected UV ray strength on a given day can also help guide you to which time of day is ideal for you (i.e., a moderate UV index so that you don’t get sun damage).

While I’ve already mentioned the ideal time, it’s also important to simultaneously guide you on how to tan safely despite the hour you choose. Just follow these tanning tips:
