When you own a tanning bed, responsibilities come along with it. My most crucial responsibility is to keep it clean and sanitize it before I use it.. Trust me, cleaning a tanning bed is not a complicated task, but, it requires complete dedication.
I have explained two different methods for your convenience. The first method is to make a homemade tanning bed cleaner solution. The second method is how to really clean a tanning bed to give yourself a salon experience.
Why Tanning Bed Cleaning Is Necessary?
A tanning bed is a good investment so it’s important to take care of it. Cleaning a tanning bed removes all the bacteria and viruses present on the surface.
The acrylic surface is the most sensitive part of a tanning bed. Tanning lotions get stuck on it. Once I used a bad, highly concentrated disinfectant, which badly damaged my tanning bed.
If you are used to clean your tanning bed with a cleaning agent, I strongly suggest you to read the alcohol concentration on the back. Look for cleaning solutions without chemicals.
How To Make Homemade Cleaning Solution For Your Tanning Bed?

Yes, you can make a tanning bed disinfectant at your home. It is a cheap option and can be prepared in less than 10 minutes.
Ingredients
I use a total of three ingredients to make a DIY cleaning solution. The first ingredient is distilled water. The second ingredient is white vinegar. Vinegar helps remove mold and fight off bacteria, fungus, and germs.
The third ingredient is an essential oil. Tea tree oil or lemon oil are all good options. All these ingredients are readily available in the market.
Preparation
Pick a spray bottle and mix all the ingredients in a 1:1 ratio. Shake the bottle well. Ensure to put a label on it and keep it away from children.
How To Clean A Tanning Bed? Step-by-Step Guide
Here comes the most important part. Learn how I clean and disinfect the tanning bed with my step-by-step instructions.
Mix It Well
This is the most important step. Your solution should be mixed properly. Don’t over-concentrate it. A concentrated solution doesn’t guarantee the best cleaning; in fact, it might damage your tanning bed.
A good cleaning solution must have Lucasol solution mixed at 700 ppm (Parts Per Million).
Test The Solution
I check my cleaning solutions with Quaternary strips. A Quaternary strip is a type of litmus paper. I dip the strip into the solution and match it with the chart. If it matches the desired color, I am good to go.
Clean with Fresh Towel

I always use a fresh towel to wipe the beds. It helps me clean dirt or debris. I recommend a microfiber cloth because it doesn’t scratch the surface.
Spread And Clean
My next step is to spray the disinfectant on the bed’s surface, ensuring that it is sprayed evenly.
Wait for 60 seconds to see the magic. Then, use a new microfiber cloth to clean the disinfectant. Now, you have perfectly clean tanning equipment ready to use once again.
Conclusion
Properly sanitizing your tanning units will keep them ready and fresh for a long time. It also increases the efficiency and life span of the tanning bed.
Using the correct sanitizer and following my guide word by word will surely help you clean it without any hassle.
